More Than Building Homes: Why We Started Built By Her

By June 7, 2026No Comments

At BBG Built, construction has always been about more than timber, concrete and plans.

Yes, we build homes. We renovate spaces. We inspect properties and help people make informed decisions about one of the biggest investments they’ll ever make.

But at its core, our business has always been about people.

Over the years, we’ve met hundreds of homeowners who wanted to be more confident around their homes. People who wanted to understand basic maintenance, use power tools safely, or simply feel comfortable tackling everyday projects themselves.

One thing became increasingly obvious.

Many women had never been given the opportunity to learn practical building skills in an environment where they felt comfortable asking questions.

Not because they weren’t capable.

Because nobody had ever shown them.

The Birth of Built By Her

Built By Her was created to change that.

What started as a simple idea quickly grew into something much bigger: a welcoming, hands-on environment where women can learn practical DIY skills, gain confidence with tools, and walk away with something they’ve built themselves.

No prior experience.

No judgement.

No pressure.

Just practical skills taught by experienced tradespeople who genuinely enjoy helping others learn.

Our workshops are designed specifically for beginners. Whether someone has never picked up a drill before or simply wants to become more self-sufficient around the home, everyone starts from the same place.

The goal isn’t to create builders overnight.

The goal is confidence.

Why Confidence Matters

When someone learns how to use a drill, install hardware, build a planter box, or understand basic construction principles, something interesting happens.

Their confidence grows.

They begin looking at projects differently.

They ask better questions.

They become more informed homeowners.

They become more empowered consumers.

And in many cases, they discover a passion they never knew they had.

We’ve already seen women arrive nervous and uncertain, only to leave a few hours later proudly carrying a project they built with their own hands.

Those moments are incredibly rewarding.

Bridging the Gap Between Industry and Community

The construction industry has a tremendous amount of knowledge.

Unfortunately, much of that knowledge never leaves the building site.

At BBG Built, we believe education should be shared.

The more people understand how homes are built, maintained and repaired, the better decisions they can make as homeowners.

Built By Her allows us to bridge that gap.

It’s an opportunity to take the skills we’ve developed through years in construction and pass them on in a practical, approachable way.

Building More Than Projects

One of the most rewarding aspects of the workshops has been seeing the friendships and connections that form.

People arrive as strangers.

They leave having learned new skills, built something tangible, and often met like-minded people along the way.

In a world where many interactions happen online, there is something powerful about gathering together, working with your hands, and creating something real.

That sense of achievement can’t be bought.

It has to be experienced.

Looking Forward

Built By Her is only the beginning.

Our vision is to continue creating opportunities for people to develop practical skills, build confidence, and become more capable around their homes and communities.

As BBG Built continues to grow, we remain committed to the same values that started this journey:

  • Honesty
  • Education
  • Quality workmanship
  • Community
  • Empowerment through knowledge

Because whether we’re building a home, inspecting a property, or teaching someone how to use a drill for the very first time, the goal remains the same.

To leave people better equipped and more confident than when we first met them.

That’s what building means to us.

And that’s what Built By Her is all about.
